MODELLING FROM LIFE - FIGURATIVE SCULPTURE

Tutors: Andrew Brown/Marji Talbot
Cost: £165 for  6 sessions following term times
Includes model fees / firing. Clay is available to purchase at the studio.
Weds or Thurs afternoons: 2pm - 5pm
Class Size: 8 max

Enjoy working from the life model in clay. Work can be fired or cast. Cast work requires booking on to a Casting Course for a further six weeks. The course may vary according to consensus in the group to include using other materials, or to concentrate on different aspects of figurative work such as protraiture, studies of hands and feet, abstraction from the figure etc.

ANIMAL SCULPTURE
Tutor: Andrew Brown
Cost: £260 for 10 x 3 hour sessions (Includes all materials and firing)
Saturday mornings
Class Size: 8

Spring: Jan 12,19,26, Feb 2, 9, 16, March 2, 9, 16, 23
Working from your images/photographs, learn how to sculpt a small scale(approx 12x17cm) animal in wax. The animal may be at rest or upright and it is also quite possible to sculpt an animal in motion. During this course you will learn how to prepare a hollow wax armature before going on to make your sculpture while learning different ways of handling the wax. On completion of the waxes you will be taught how to make a one or two piece silicone rubber mould and from this how to make a solid cast in iron resin. After de-moulding and polishing, you will have a finished sculpture to take home.

PORTRAIT HEAD IN CLAY
Tutor: Hazel Reeves SWA FRS Cost: £320 – includes model fees, firing and materials.
Dates: 5 Sat each term as follows:
Autumn Term: Nov 3,10,17,24, and Dec 1
Spring Term: Mar 2, 9, 16, 23, and Apr 6
Times: 10am – 4pm

Why not join us as we explore portrait sculpture over five weeks? Work from life to create a lively portrait head. Suitable for all levels of experience. Hazel Reeves specialises in portrait sculpture. She is an elected member of the Society of Women Artists and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. 

GARDEN SCULPTURE
Tutor: Andrew Brown
Cost: £295 (includes all materials)

6 Saturdays: 10am - 1pm.

Class size: 8

Autumn: Nov 3,10,17,24, Dec 1, 8

Have fun creating a weatherproof sculpture for your garden. Working from you own ideas, you will begin by constructing an armature cut and carved from polystyrene. This will then be coated with a layer of jesmonite (a fume free user friendly material) Working with this material you will model the surface of your sculpture before colouring and sealing the finished piece. Medium to large work.


FREE FORM

Cost: £125 per 6 x 3 hr session plus materials

Tues, Wed, Thurs 10am - 1pm or 2pm - 5pm,

Sat - 10am - 1pm

Evening course on Tues: 7pm - 9:30pm
Dates: Students must pre-book 6 sessions with the studio. Please note that session dates can be flexible.
Free Form is for those students with who would like to work on individual project based work but need technical help. Materials available for example are;clayto model on to armatures to be then cast or fired, plaster and jesmonite for direct modelling on to armatures, and wax for modelling then casting into pewter. Bring your ideas and get started! All levels of ability and experience welcome. 

WOOD CARVING
Tutor: Claire Morris
Cost:£175 per 6 sessions including materials and use of basic tools.
Day: Thursdays 10am -1pm
Autumn Term: Sept 6, 13, 20, 27, Oct 4, 11
Spring Term: Feb 28, Mar 7, 14, 21, 28 Apr 4 
Class Size: 8
The aim of this course is to enable students to learn the basic principles and techniques of woodcarving. By the end of the course students should be able to:
-recognize and apply good carving design.
-select and use correctly a range of carving tools and equipment.
-Apply a variety of carving techniques.
-Appreciate the qualities and application of various hardwoods.
-Be involved in the critical assessment of their own and others work.

CASTING

Tutor: Andrew Brown
Cost: £125 per 6 x 3 hr sessions plus materials
Dates: Students must pre-book 6 sessions with the studio at the beginning of each half term
Learn how to cast your work in a variety of materials from plaster to resin and ciment fondu.

FINISHING DAYS
Tutor: Andrew Brown
Cost: £50 (includes materials) per day
Learn how to finish work using a variety of methods and materials. Students will need to bring their work along (up to 4 pieces). Work should be either a fired piece, or pieces made in plaster, ciment or resin. 

TASTER WORKSHOPS
Tutor: Andrew Brown/Marji Talbot
Cost: £35 per 3 hour session
Dates: Students need to pre-book a time with the studio
Not sure if sculpture is for you? Try joining us for an afternoon and enjoy learning how to build forms in clay ready for firing. Have fun exploring a variety of materials and techniques that may lead you on to further sculptural work. Contact us to arrange a time that suits you.

SOFT STONE CARVING
Tutor: Thea Taylor

Cost: £125 for 6 x 3hr sessions plus materials

Autumn: Sept 5, 12, 19, 26, Oct 3, 10 

Autumn: Nov 21, 28, Dec 5 all day, 12, 19

Spring Term: Mar 6,13,20,27, Apr 3, 10

Spring: May, 8, 15, 22, 29, Jun 5

Times: Wed 10am – 1pm

Class Size: 8 max.

Enjoy learning to work intuitively in soft stone to produce imaginative work on a small scale. A selection of beautiful soft stones will be used.  All practical aspects will be covered from use of tools to polishing and finishing work. All levels of experience welcome.
